TOM RIGNEY EXPLORING COLOR:
CLASH, CRASH, BEND, AND BLEND
Artist Reception: 4pm - 6pm, prior to concert. Saturday, January 25th, 2025.

In the past few years—the time during which these works were created—I have been continuing to explore many different kinds of color interactions: some vibrant and contrasting, some subtle and smooth, some violent, some peaceful—clash, crash, bend, blend. In this show I am also continuing my use of images created entirely in the digital realm: “drawn” in the computer and then manipulated. Most of these involve the use of color gradients in various ways. And some of these computer-drawn images are then combined with other images from the “real” world, creating overlapping blends and clashes of color and form.
Mr. Rigney studied painting and printmaking in the 1960s at the University of California Santa Barbara, and later at the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Harvard University. His obsession with the violin, and his ensuing musical career, began after completing a Masters Degree, in Fine Arts, from Harvard University in 1971.
Throughout his long musical career he has also been a creator of original graphic art and photography, and has had exhibits of his work in New York, San Francisco, and Berkeley. His work, which is primarily abstract, has been a lifelong exploration of the expressive power of color and form, detached from representative imagery.
For the past twenty years Mr. Rigney has developed a technique of merging and manipulating high resolution scans of original artworks in the computer and creating new original graphic art that is then returned to the analog world in the form of Giclee prints on archival papers. These pieces are printed, signed, and numbered, in very small editions.
