The Owens Lake Bird Festival showcases the migration of birds through the Mojave desert, along the historic Owens Lake. This festival merges the magic of historic western movie scenes and ancient tribal histories at the Alabama Hills with the stark natural beauty of Death Valley´s doorstep. Birding trips highlight the birds, photography, botany, geology, and history of this important location. The LA Department of Water and Power´s unique dust management engineering restored the lakes important bird habitats where saltwater and freshwater interact to host a huge number of traveling bird species. Owens Lake is recognized as an Important Bird Area in California.
The festival will start with a social on Friday evening. On Saturday, there will be half-day morning and afternoon tours as well as full-day tours starting from the parking lot of the Lone Pine Museum of Western Film History, 701 S. Main Street, Lone Pine, CA. The day will end with a celebratory catered dinner (optional) at the Museum starting at 6 PM and featuring a guest speaker. A Silent Auction will be held on Saturday as well with goods donated by local businesses. On Sunday, there will be morning half-day tours, also starting from the Lone Pine Museum of Western Film History, 701 S. Main Street, Lone Pine, CA. |
